The Bio-Sand Filter Project

The Bio-Sand Filter Project is a high-stakes, hands-on engineering challenge that empowers your team to provide a permanent solution for families in the Zona Maya.
In this activity, teams must collaborate to assemble and calibrate a biological water filtration system using layers of gravel, sand, and activated carbon. This technology requires no electricity and can provide safe, drinkable water for a household for over 10 years. It’s a powerful metaphor for organizational synergy: when every layer of the team is aligned, the result is clarity and life.
